Holy Week…

If anyone knows me, they know that I believe that this time ought not only be about remembering Jesus on the cross, but the cross of Jesus ought to be shaping how we live our lives too.  Our lives now ought be continually marked by love, sacrifice, submission, and service to God and others!

Can we ever disagree without hateful and dehumanizing language???

I don’t think that civil conversation is possible in the American arena and context.  So much hatred, bigotry, and ignorance has overwhelmed all chances of truly human interaction.  There are some deep ideological differences in our country, and they will never be bridged with the atmosphere of racism and apathy that currently exist. When IContinue reading “Can we ever disagree without hateful and dehumanizing language???”

“Without Ceasing”

The amount of hours that the average person consumes media and communication through TV, Computer/Internet, Mp3’s, radio, and cell phones are astronomical.  Many teens express that their social lives would end if they no longer had their phones.  Most of us feel that we NEED these things and can’t go with out them.  If weContinue reading ““Without Ceasing””

According to Glenn Beck, I’m a Nazi!

According to Glenn Beck “Social Justice” and “Economic Justice” are code words for communists, socialists, and Nazis.  He warns his listeners to beware of churches and religious leaders who dare to talk about such things. Here is a part of his dialogue… “I’m begging you, your right to religion and freedom to exercise religion andContinue reading “According to Glenn Beck, I’m a Nazi!”

War, Violence, and Christian Faith

A great internal debate throughout christian history has been on the subject matter of war and violence.  Is there such thing as a “Just War”, and should Christians participate in war or any acts of violence? Let’s begin the dialogue, freestyle with me and briefly tell me what you think… (biblically that is).

Luke 6:46 is calling you out!

I am convinced that the American church has lost its way. We are so enslaved by materialism and entrenched with a consumeristic mindset, that we fail to see how much we have watered down the faith. American Evangelicals think they have it all figured out, but it is my conclusion that we (evangelicals) have theContinue reading “Luke 6:46 is calling you out!”

Not Different but Faithful

I had a great conversation with some friends and our discussion found its way to the discussion of church. I know, me talking about the nature of the Church, surprise surprise!!!  Anyways, one friend knowing my long term goal to do a church plant, asked how I would ensure that I did not fall intoContinue reading “Not Different but Faithful”

What is Missional?

I know I have thrown out the term Missional at various times on this site, with out spending the time to define what it is.  While I have critiqued aspects of it as a movement, and how it has been lived out, I tend to agree with the overall theological foundations and assumptions. A friendContinue reading “What is Missional?”

Ecclesia National Gathering, 2010: Missional & White

For the last few days, I away at Ecclesia’s National Gathering. Ecclesia is a missional network that specializes in coming around church planters and church leaders to relevantly minister to a rapidly changing culture. I had some great dialogue with many people while I was there and definitely left with a lot to think aboutContinue reading “Ecclesia National Gathering, 2010: Missional & White”

The Perpetuation of Racial Inequality

One more from Divided by Faith, it says “The logic is straightforward. (1) In the United States there is racial inequality in access to valued resources (see Chapter One). (2) Access to valued resources–such as jobs, prestige, wealth, and power–is gained in significant part through social ties. (3) As we have previously discussed, for reasonsContinue reading “The Perpetuation of Racial Inequality”
