I don’t think that civil conversation is possible in the American arena and context. So much hatred, bigotry, and ignorance has overwhelmed all chances of truly human interaction. There are some deep ideological differences in our country, and they will never be bridged with the atmosphere of racism and apathy that currently exist.
When I heard what happened to civil rights leader John Lewis I wasn’t even surprised… and that is what scares me. It’s like the last year has pushed us backwards in racial progress, rather than forward as many people expected (I actually didn’t).
I must be the only one sick of all this, I just might have to move to the West Indies…
Had to throw this clip in cause it was funny. Jon Stewart is actually challenging Keith Olbermann for being too nasty (I know it sounds like bizarro world, right?). Enjoy.
The brilliant Dr. West shares words of challenge and encouragement with our President.
It’s time for us to invest in our young people! Too many young folk dropping out of school, too many young folk that don’t believe in their own gifts and talents, too many young folk with demoralized and beat down psyches. While I think we must continue to address the wealth disparities that exist, we need to do much work in the psychological and spiritual realm.
How do we begin to restore what was stripped from the black community in America through 400 years of inhumane slavery, jim crow laws, lynching, segregation, brutality, stereotypes, and hatred?
What do you think about the idea of supporting the President, while also critiqueing him and keeping him accountable? Blind and biased critique or support will never be good, especially in a democracy, right?
What are your thoughts?
This picture captures what will hopefully be a more globally diverse future for American foreign policy, in which we are strengthening America’s relationships around the world. At the least, it’s a new look for the White House.
I really liked what my blogging friend had to say about this photo, in which Pres. Obama has recieved a lot of critique for bowing to a foreign leader. Check it out here.
